AREMA Endorses Transition to Low Global Warming Refrigerants

One of the major challenges facing the airconditioning and refrigeration industry globally is the move to adopt low GWP refrigerant. This transition is strongly endorsed by AREMA, and individual AREMA members are well advanced on the development of equipment for introduction into the Australian market. While this is a critical step for the industry, it is essential that the process does not lose sight of energy efficiency – more than 90% of the greenhouse impact of airconditioning and refrigeration equipment comes from the energy it consumes over its lifetime, while the greenhouse impact from leaking the refrigerant charge less than 10%. Low GWP refrigerants with improved energy efficiency are in the pipeline, and will be progressively released into the Australian market over coming years.
