The submission on IChEMS Consultation, dealing with the proposed mechanism for placing GWP limits on refrigerants in new equipment has been finalised and submitted to government on behalf of Refrigerants Australia and AREMA.
Australian refrigerant policy has long roots and has been quite successful over the past 35 years. The Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act (Ozone Act) has provided regulatory certainty to the three main pillars of refrigerant regulation: import restrictions, use control, and end-of-life requirements.
Since 2019, however, Refrigerants Australia and AREMA has urged the Australian Government to put GWP limits on refrigerants in new equipment.
[The Australian Government’s Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS) establishes nationally consistent standards for managing:
- import
- manufacture
- export
- use
- disposal of industrial chemicals.]
